VASCO, Mar 10: “Due to pulls and pressures exerted from various directions people’s aspirations cannot be fulfilled. Nowadays, power has fallen into the clutches of brokers. People’s welfare and development seems quite unachievable due to the rise of such ‘agents’ who wield immense influence,” said Elvis Gomes, Panjim civic commissioner, at the release function of Konkani book “Koslich Malis Nastana”.

Gomes added, “Writers like Daniel D’Souza, however, try to analyse the prevailing situation and, through their articles and writings, suggest effective ways to alleviate the ills prevalent in society.” He said that Daniel, “who has been gifted with the talent to write responsibly on issues after due contemplation, has contributed substantially towards social awakening through his news reports and articles. Besides mothertongue Konkani, he has been contributing admirable articles in English to various newspapers and publications.”

Popular bilingual columnist Daniel de Souza’s first book was released at an impressive function held at Vasco’s Hotel La Paz Gardens this evening, at the hands of the Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Mormugao MLA, Giovanni Karl Vaz. The Mormugao legislator praised the enterprising writer not only for venturing into publishing his Konkani articles in the form of a book but for spreading social consciousness as well. “Koslich Malis Nastana,” published by Talia Prokaxonn, contains 25 articles which have appeared in various publications over the years, and which were reviewed by Jose Salvador Fernandes at the function. Priced at Rs.60 only, the interesting Konkani book carries a foreword by researcher-writer Fr Nacimento Mascarenhas. Daniel D’Souza, while proposing the vote of thanks, said that the articles contained in his book largely relate to his experiences, and hoped that it will inspire young people while contributing to the enrichment of Konkani literature.
