Anthony Frank Fernandes

With great sadness, we wish to inform you that Anthony Frank Fernandes, of Washington, DC passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Beloved husband of Elaine Fernandes; loving father of Errol Fernandes. A truly exemplary family man, who has clearly made an impact on many, as expressed by the countless wishes received.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Dominic Church, 630 E Street SW, Washington, DC 20024 from 9 am to 10 am, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am. Interment immediately following at Ivy Hill Cemetery 2823 King St, Alexandria, VA 22302. Guests are invited to join the family in a light reception following the committal service at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302.

Peter Fernandes

With great sadness, we wish to inform you that Peter Fernandes, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018. He is survived by his loving wife Angelica; children LouAnne (Faisal) D’Souza and Arthur (Rebecca) Fernandes; and grandchildren Grace and Angeline D’Souza and Julianna, Caitlyn, and Christina Fernandes.

The viewing will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church (10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) on Tuesday, January 9th at 10am with the funeral Mass starting at 11am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and reception will follow directly after Mass.


Fr Charles Borges completes 50 years as a Jesuit

Fr Charles J Borges, SJ, joined the Society of Jesus (the Jesuit order) on June 20, 1967 as part of the Goa Jesuit Province in India.
He has just completed fifty years as a Jesuit of which he has been a priest for 36 years.

He worked at the Xavier Center of Historical Research in Goa for twenty years as Administrator, Librarian and Director.
Since 2000, He has been associate professor in history at Loyola University Maryland. Author of the Economics of the Goa Jesuits 1542-1759: An explanation of their rise and fall, he is also editor and co editor of nine other books on Goan and Indo Portuguese history. He teaches courses on European, India, and South Asian history as well as on Indian religions and on Jesuit history in Asia.

He completed his doctoral studies from the University of Bombay in 1989. He has attended a number of international conferences and has over 60 published research articles to his credit. Besides his duties as professor, he also celebrates masses in a number of churches and convents in the Baltimore area and conducts on a regular basis mass on Radio. He has in the past taken Loyola University students to India during the Winter breaks to give them an idea of Indian culture, religions and living. Since 2016 he is the director of the Bangkok program of Loyola University and will spend the following Fall semesters there overseeing the program.
